03 · WORKFLOW

Every automated step has a review point.

Human expertiseTool / AI functionQuality assurance

Not every step is automated, and no automated step goes unchecked. A specialist intervenes at each of the six stages — before, during or after processing.

  1. STEP 01

    Initial assessment

We assess the format, volume, type of text, media and target markets.

    INTERVENTION

Before quoting, we explain what can realistically be achieved with the material supplied.

  2. STEP 02

    Pre-editing

Ambiguous source material is cleaned up before automation begins to generate costs.

    INTERVENTION

Ambiguities are resolved before automation can multiply them.

  3. STEP 03

    Terminology & TM

We establish company terminology, a pronunciation lexicon and translation memory.

    INTERVENTION

Existing terminology is adopted and disputed spellings are agreed in advance.

  4. STEP 04

    Automated version

Tools handle pre-translation, speech synthesis, timing and image adaptation.

    INTERVENTION

Rules, voices and parameters can be adjusted before rerunning the process.

  5. STEP 05

    Post-editing & approval

Native-language review of the text, pronunciation and visual context.

    INTERVENTION

Native-language review corrects the text, pronunciation and visual context.

  6. STEP 06

    Delivery

Secure transfer, client portal and online project tracking.

    INTERVENTION

Approval or revision — nothing is delivered without final acceptance.

FEEDBACK LOOP

Corrections made during post-editing are fed back into the terminology, pronunciation lexicon and translation memory. This gives the next project a stronger starting point — something a one-off tool run cannot provide.

04 · MODULES

Six modules, combined as required.

Each module can be commissioned separately or integrated into a continuous production workflow. Jump directly to the relevant section.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does localisation differ from translation?
Translation concerns the text. Localisation also covers formatting, character sets, reading direction, images, links, contact details and functionality in the target environment.
Which file formats can you process?
Text and media formats from websites, software and documentation. We identify the formats in your project during the initial assessment before preparing a quote.
Where do the savings of up to 85 per cent come from?
They result from the software-assisted workflow compared with conventional production methods, measured in cost and time. For text-to-speech, zappmedia statistics show savings of between 50 and 85 per cent.
Will our terminology be retained?
Yes. Company terminology and translation memory are established before production begins and reused consistently for every subsequent project.
Who checks the result?
Native-language specialists carry out post-editing, followed by functional testing in the target environment. Both stages are included in the fixed price.
What happens to our data?
Processing takes place on servers located in Germany, is EU GDPR-compliant and follows information security management that conforms to ISO 27001. Delivery is through the client portal.
02/text-to-speech

Text-to-speech service

The zappmedia.io text-to-speech service turns written content into audio using synthetic premium voices in more than 80 languages — as a complete service including project management, production, final quality control and online delivery. Pricing starts at €0.02 per word. The method is ideal for factual and narrative content with clear sentences; where emphasis and emotion carry the message, professional voice talent remains the better choice.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
  1. The future of speech synthesis lies in unsupervised AI learning, known as unsupervised learning.
  2. The AI model is supplied with large volumes of text and gradually learns for itself which emotions are embedded in a statement.
  3. This emotional dimension is essential if a text is to be presented in a way that sounds human.
  4. Unlike earlier forms of machine learning, unsupervised learning does not require human assistants to laboriously match text segments with emotions in endless CAPTCHA cycles.
  5. Instead, the AI can establish these connections independently.
  6. This type of speech synthesis considers the emotional context of the entire text when determining how individual sentences and words should be emphasised.
  7. The voices used by zappmedia for its text-to-speech service — including the one you are hearing now — are the result of precisely this form of speech synthesis.
  8. Thank you for listening.

Send us a passage of your text and we will produce a free sample using your product names. Available to business clients.

SOURCERecording from the zappmedia GmbH archive, produced using a synthetic premium voice.

What we produce with synthetic voices.

  • E-learning, tutorials and instructions
  • Explainer videos, course materials and learning programmes
  • Corporate films, product films and social media
  • Conference content, interviews and podcasts
  • Audiobooks
  • Guidance and navigation systems
  • City, audio and museum guides
  • Point of sale
  • Telephone announcements and IVR systems
  • Apps and games
  • Voice assistants
  • Accessible versions for people who cannot read or find reading difficult

When synthetic voices are the right choice

Synthetic voices are well suited to factual and narrative texts with clear, straightforward sentences. In text-to-speech productions, our specialist teams orchestrate parts of the production process using dedicated software.

Learning support

In educational settings, synthetic voices can read texts aloud and support learning.

Multilingual content

When content is translated into several languages, synthetic voices provide an efficient way to distribute it without engaging separate voice talent for every language.

Content production

For podcasts and video tutorials, synthetic voices offer a cost-effective and readily scalable alternative.

Accessibility

Text-to-speech is useful for people who find reading difficult, for example because of visual impairments or learning difficulties.

Multitasking

When hands or eyes are needed for other tasks, listening to text is more practical than reading it.

Voice applications

Synthetic voices are used in voice assistants, automated service lines and navigation systems.

When synthetic voices are not suitable

Although synthetic voices have improved greatly in recent years, they do not yet match the emotional range of human voices. Where distinctive intonation or emotional expression is required, professional voice talent remains the better choice.

AI voice or professional voice talent?

Synthetic voices are available quickly and often sound remarkably good. For some productions, however, a studio recording remains the right choice.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Which languages are available with premium voices?
More than 80 languages. We curate voices and pronunciation for each language and recommend suitable options for your text together with our quote.
What will it sound like with my own text?
Send us a passage and we will produce a free sample using your product names and terminology. The service is available to business clients.
Will product names be pronounced correctly?
That is the purpose of our script service: segmentation and prompt engineering before the text is sent to the AI. It is included in the price of audiovisual productions. If you supply a production-ready script, this stage can be skipped.
Do I need to disclose AI-generated audio?
The transparency requirements of the EU AI Act apply from 2 August 2026. Our quote explains what applies to your intended use.
Which files will I receive?
The audio track in your required format, with segmented individual files available on request. Subtitles in SRT, VTT and other formats can be added as an optional service.
Can I use the recording anywhere?
Yes. Usage rights are unlimited in time and territory and cover all media and forms of use. No additional licensing is required.
03/video

Video localisation and AI lip-sync

Video localisation adapts existing video material for additional languages, even when the original script is no longer available. zappmedia.io transcribes and translates the original soundtrack, then supplies either a new, timecode-synchronised voice track or subtitles. A timecode-aligned voice track costs €1.00 per video minute, and export with mixing costs €2.50. AI lip-sync is available on request.

Limitations of AI lip-sync

Close-ups, strong emotion and facial expressions, rapid cuts, beards, hands covering the mouth and side angles are challenging. Suitable applications include social ads, e-learning and short marketing clips where the mouth is clearly visible or central to the image.

Which method is right for your project?

Video localisation involves many factors and options. Choosing the right method saves time, effort and money.

TWO APPROACHES
Voice-over or subtitles

Both begin in the same way — by transcribing the original soundtrack — and then follow different paths.

SHARED FIRST STEP01The original video's soundtrack is transcribed into text

VOICE-OVER

  1. 02The transcript is turned into a script in the target language
  2. 03The text is recorded again using either a synthetic or professional voice
  3. 04The original soundtrack is replaced, or the new voice track is mixed to the foreground
  4. 05Video and audio are synchronised and exported, with AI lip-sync if required

SUBTITLING

  1. 02The text is translated into the target language
  2. 03Display time and line length are adjusted
  3. 04The text is added to the video as subtitles

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We no longer have a script — can you still help?
Yes. This is precisely why transcription comes first: we recover the text from the original soundtrack and use it for the remaining stages.
Which costs less, voice-over or subtitles?
Subtitling is the more cost-effective option and preserves the original voices. Voice-over has greater impact when viewers need to follow the video without reading.
What does AI lip-sync do?
It adapts the lip movements on screen to the new-language voice track so the dubbing is less noticeable. This stage is optional.
Which subtitle formats are available?
Subtitles can be supplied as SRT, VTT or other file formats, or burned into the video. Display times and line lengths are adjusted, and typography and colour are checked for legibility.
Do we need to disclose the AI version?
The transparency requirements of the EU AI Act apply from 2 August 2026. Our quote explains what applies to your intended use.
Can we use professional voice talent instead of synthetic voices?
Yes. Voice-over is then produced through the studio at zappmedia.com, with online casting and direction. The rest of the workflow remains the same.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the software produce, and what remains a human task?
Software generates initial versions of text, images and audio. Editing, brand alignment and quality control remain human tasks — without them, the result is generic content.
How much preparation do we need to do?
Very little. General or specific written information in any language is sufficient, such as web pages about the subject.
Will the result fit our brand?
Production is tailored to your specific requirements and brand identity. The clearer your terminology and tone of voice, the more precisely the result will match.
Are there subjects you do not produce?
Sex, politics and religion are excluded. Other subjects are welcome.
How quickly will the result be delivered?
The sample project described here takes one to three days. We schedule larger projects as part of the fixed-price quote.
Can we use the result anywhere?
Yes. Usage rights are unlimited in time and territory and cover all media and forms of use.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What clients ask before their first production.

What is the difference between zappmedia.io and zappmedia.com?
zappmedia.io brings together software-assisted production workflows for text, audio and visual content. Traditional professional translation by linguists and recordings with professional voice talent remain at zappmedia.com. Both services are operated by zappmedia GmbH and can be combined within a single project.
Is AI-assisted production still reviewed by a person?
Yes. Every automated step has a review point: pre-editing before processing, followed by post-editing and final quality control. Final quality control is included in the fixed price and is never omitted.
When should I use text-to-speech, and when is professional voice talent the better choice?
Text-to-speech is well suited to factual and narrative content with clear sentences, large volumes and frequent updates. When emphasis and emotional expression carry the message — in advertising, corporate films or audiobooks — a studio recording is the better choice.
Do AI-generated audio recordings need to be disclosed?
The transparency requirements of the EU AI Act apply from 2 August 2026. Our quote explains what applies to your intended use and identifies cases where a professional voice recording is the simpler option.
How quickly can you deliver?
Depending on the project volume and requirements, delivery takes anything from a few hours to several days. We confirm the binding delivery date with our fixed-price quote.
Where is my data processed?
Our servers are located in Germany, processing is EU GDPR-compliant and our information security management conforms to ISO 27001. Files are delivered through the client portal with online project tracking.
How much does one minute of text-to-speech cost?
One minute of audio contains an average of approximately 130 words, which equates to about €2.60 for production alone. Speaking speed varies by text type and cannot be standardised, so billing is always per word rather than per minute. For small orders, the minimum order value of €38 applies instead.
Why does a small order cost more than the word count suggests?
Each service has its own minimum order value. If the number of units multiplied by the unit price falls below that amount, the minimum is charged. For voice production, the per-word calculation exceeds the minimum from approximately 1,900 words per language; for subtitles, from 500 words; and for translation, from approximately 2,300 words.
Does the script service cost extra?
Not for audiovisual productions. Segmentation and optimisation of the spoken script are part of the production process and included in the price. Supplying a production-ready script therefore does not reduce the price, and you do not need to prepare one yourself.
When are volume discounts available?
From 50,000 words per language, from the 60th video minute, or from 20 individual productions using one voice in a single batch.
Which usage rights are included?
Unlimited rights in time and territory, covering all media and forms of use. No additional licensing is required if you later use the recording on further channels.
Can I hear what it sounds like first?
Yes. Send us a passage of text and we will produce a free sample using your product names and terminology. The service is available to business clients.
